Indie Shoutout Thursdays: C.A. Kunz (The Childe Series)

About the Authors

A total love of story telling is what inspired this fifty-four year young mom and her twenty-six year old son to write together.

Carol Kunz was born in New Ferry, England. Her interest in the supernatural was first sparked upon meeting a ghost at the age of eight. As a teenager, she was always fascinated by the mythology behind vampires, werewolves and witches. Being an avid reader, Carol finds it easy to spend several hours wrapped up in a great fantasy novel.

Adam Kunz was born in Newport News, Virginia. Growing up, he was a huge fan of creature features and books about things that go bump in the night. When he is not busy writing, Adam enjoys his job at a certain theme park in Orlando, Florida as a décor consultant. This job brings him face to face with all sorts of nightmarish creatures, especially when he decorates the haunted houses for the park’s annual Halloween event.

Carol and Adam currently reside forty-five minutes away from each other in the sunny state of Florida.

Synopsis: Cat Colvin
Average Teenager?
Or Something Else Entirely?

Cat Colvin is pretty much your typical run-of-the-mill teenager. Sure, she’s taller than most girls, has a mane of fiery red hair that’s impossible to tame, is left-handed, and her eyes are two different colors, but that’s where the differences end... unless you include the minor detail of her slow transformation into a Childe.

High school can definitely be challenging, and for Cat it’s no different. This is especially true when she’s faced with the daunting task of trying to hide her budding Childe traits as they begin to reveal themselves at the most inopportune times. To make matters worse, her family is oddly dead set against Ryan, the boy she grows to like. But everyone has their secrets: is Ryan really what he seems to be, and what is Cat’s family not telling her?

Dark Days (The Childe Series, #2)

Purchase on Barnes & Noble and Amazon!

Synopsis: Surviving tenth grade is the least of Cat Colvin’s worries.

Cat Colvin wants more than anything to just be an “average” teenager and blend in, but having found out the secret of her adoption has Cat questioning her entire life. Unfortunately, there are much deeper and darker secrets being withheld from her that may prove to threaten her very existence. Cat will be forced to make a choice: stay in Astoria and possibly endanger all that she loves, or flee and hide amongst her kind.

Friendships will be tested, family bonds will be tried, and even Cat herself will be pushed to her limits both emotionally and physically; all while trying to maintain a somewhat normal relationship with her boyfriend Ryan. What is actually going on in the quaint port town of Astoria, and are Cat and her loved ones prepared for the dark days that loom ahead? Find out in this continuation to the “*…thrilling, unputdownable story,” The Childe.

Synopsis: Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

Our Thoughts: The cover is GORGEOUS and we are TOTAL suckers for a beautiful cover that offers mystery. Although, we are not super huge fans of parallel universes or time jumping and the like, A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU just sounds soooo goood we just can't stay away from it! I mean there's murder, betrayal, secrets, a possible romance. Colored us VERY intrigued *wink* *hehe*

MEI YEE has been trapped in a brothel for the past two years, dreaming of getting out while watching the girls who try fail one by one. She's about to give up, when one day she sees an unexpected face at her window.....

In this innovative and adrenaline-fueled novel, they all come together in a desperate attempt to escape a lawless labyrinth before the clock runs out.

Our Thoughts: THE WALLED CITY just sounds sinister and dark and twisty and dangerous--all elements we thoroughly enjoy in books! We are HUGE fans of dark fiction and were instantly hooked in by the first line of the synopsis. We want to know more about the characters, especially the girl who hides herself as a boy, and how they each connect to one another. It's a book we already can't stop thinking about and CANNOT wait to get our hands on!

Short Wrap Up: HOLY SWEETCAKES NERDS!! THIS episode was so much about SECRETS! Esther, the mom from hell, wants a reunion with her boys Elijah and Klaus because she has a very powerful offer. The Mikaelson boys aren’t exactly trusting of their wicked witch of a mother so they scheme to find a witch for a spell that helps them keep track of when Esther jumps bodies. Klaus also learns a VERY life changing secret his mother had never told him about which explains SO MUCH of how Klaus turned into a rageaholic vampire! #AlltheFeels Finn reveals himself to his younger brothers, not that Klaus cares too much; he still finds ways to insult big brother, and Esther makes an offer to Hayley she almost gives into. Marcel is building his vampire coven and Elijah finally agrees to become Gia’s mentor.

Favorite Klaus Quotes

“Well, I doubt her guard will drop just because I’m dressed like a bloody lawyer.”

“Just know, if she tries anything, I will tear her new body to pieces.”

“Well, it was a challenge to find a good pairing. What wine goes well with treachery?”
“Why would she want Hayley? (Elijah)
‘To kill her, to punish us, to learn the truth about the child, for one of any number of reasons. All which will be rendered moot when I send her screaming back to hell.”

“You hide behind your spell like a coward.”

"You rant, and you rage about the monster I’ve become, but you, Mother, are the author of everything I am.”
