Indie Shoutout: Author Ripley Patton (Ghost Hand and Over the Rim)

Author Bio: Ripley Patton recently returned from a five-year adventure in New Zealand where she founded a national association for writers of speculative fiction called SpecFicNZ. She also survived several large earthquakes and, subsequently, does not recommend them. She now lives in Portland, Oregon with two teenagers, one cat, and a man who wants to live on a boat.
Ripley has had over 25 short stories published on-line and in print, and won the Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Short Story 2009.
The publication of her first novel, a YA paranormal thriller titled Ghost Hand, was funded through a Kickstarter campaign that earned 110% of it's funding goal. Ghost Hand was successfully released in November 2012 in both e-book and paperback formats, and has garnered rave reviews by readers and book bloggers alike. It is the first book of the PSS Chronicles Series, with the second book, Ghost Hold, due out in September 2013.
Ripley doesn't drink, or smoke, or cuss as much as her characters. Her only real vices are writing and watching reality television.

Synopsis: Mike Abbot doesn't want a trip to Crater Lake National Park, or a puppy, but his dad seems to have forgotten he is seventeen, not seven. None of his dad's efforts are going to fix what is broken, or restore what they've lost, but Mike is afraid, if he points that out, he might lose the only parent he has left.

When Mike takes the puppy on the trail around the crater to do its business, a strange sign rises out of the morning fog to warn him: Keep animals leashed at all times. Pets have been known to vanish over the rim

And when the dog does just that--vanishes over the crater's edge--it seems the universe and the strange village nestled outside of time on Wizard Island have plans for Mike that will change both worlds forever.
