Synopsis: Escaping from them had been difficult enough, now Laney needs to keep hidden. All she wanted was to be on her own. Laney is not like other girls... she has very special abilities that set her apart from others. How or why she came about these abilities is a mystery she has yet to unfold. Haunted by memories and flashbacks of the suffering she endured at the hands of her captors, she changes her appearance and hides out in a small town. Ignoring her own warnings, she begins a relationship with a local boy. The relationship turns dangerous when the boy begins developing similar abilities. This development does not fall under the radar of the men who are trying to recapture her. A young doctor's interest is piqued when he witnesses her mysteriously curing a young child's illness. He befriends her due to his growing fascination with uncovering the true nature of her abilities, but not without harboring secrets of his own. Laney's new life falls apart when she meets a young intern that seems to have all the answers to her questions. The information sends her into a tail spin. Thoughts of going on the run once again are thwarted as those whom she was running from find her.

He carried her to the
sofa and whispered in her ear. “I'm not like the other people who helped you.
I've survived for hundreds of years,” Eli said. Julie looked up at him as he
continued. “I am similar to a type of mythological creature told of in some
books, although I am not one of them,” Eli explained. “I have some traits that
could be labeled as human, although I am not one of those, either. There are
others like me, but we do not congregate, preferring instead to live solitary
lives among the humans. Most of us dedicate our lives to a craft, and perfect
it to the best of our abilities. My chosen craft is medicine,” Eli told. Julie
stayed silent, drinking in his words. “I can protect you, Julie. I've entrusted
you with some information about myself. Now I need you to entrust your safety
and well being to me,” he finished.

After showering and changing into her clothes for the day she opened the
refrigerator. She stared at the empty contents and sighed. "Guess I should
get a paying job so I can get some food." The money she took when she went on the run was taken back when the men
found her. She made the money for them being forced to tell them lottery
numbers, casino games and anything else with numbers. "Okay. This is what
you wanted. Suck it up and get moving." She told herself. Her stomach
grumbled in protest. Ignoring the noise in her belly, she grabbed her hoodie
and opened her apartment door. Her nose was instantly assaulted with a wonderful
scent. Someone was making a delicious breakfast. She locked her apartment door
and turned. She lived next door to Doctor Eli Elsworth. He became a close
friend and confidant when she first moved to the area. He knew what she was and
wanted to help her. He owns the apartment building and let her live in there
rent free. She hoped to rectify that once she got a job that paid. Eli's
apartment door was open and Julie smiled. Eli was an Earthling and did not need
to eat, yet the wonderful food smell that drifted about was emanating from his
apartment. She knocked on the open door.
"Door's open." Eli called out.
Julie walked in and grinned at the sight that greeted her. Eli was
wearing an apron and cooking breakfast. "I'm not sure what to ask first.
Why are you cooking when you don't need to eat or where did you get the
apron?" Julie laughed.
"I promised your Uncle that I would make
sure you ate. The apron... came with the new pots and pans I purchased."
He smiled at her. "Now come and eat."

Julie kept
reliving the kiss over and over.
Eli had
kissed her before, but this time was different. She knew he felt the difference
too. She remembered the softness of his lips and the way he tasted and the feel
of his hands on her face. Her body gave an involuntary shudder and she felt
ashamed. She needed to stop feeling this way.
Eli is
just a friend.
But he
kissed me.
He's
kissed you before.
Not
like this.
You liked
it.
I liked
it.
Julie
sighed after she finished the inner monologue with herself.
