I HEART YA: Guest Post: Lisa Arrington (Quake)

Lisa Arrington stopped by TeamNerd to write her VERY FIRST guest post and tell us how she came up with the concept for QUAKE, her debut novel.

 Hi everyone!  I am thrilled to be here on TeamNerd Reviews during the I HEART YA event.  This is my first guest post, so I hope I do okay!

 My name is Lisa Arrington and I just published my first novel, Quake, this month.  It's been a whirlwind process once I typed those final words a couple of months ago to get this point, but it's been fun.  Harrowing, lol, but fun.

 Annabell asked me to describe how I came up with the concept and world of Quake...you're not going to believe this (or maybe you will) but Quake came about due to a crazy dream I had this past October about aliens and strange creatures invading a high school basketball game and me and my friends (in our high school forms) running for our lives.

 It was so crazy and so detailed, I just had to write it down.   Then one page turned into two...two turned into five...and the next thing I knew I was asking friends their opinions and getting the encouragement to continue making something out of it.

 The backdrop is my hometown of Tucson, AZ and the characters are very loosely based on myself and people I admire in real life.

 I am now in the process of writing Quake #2 (AfterShock), in the sequel readers will learn more about Ali and Caden's background, why the Aliens chose Earth to invade and maybe, just maybe, they will be defeated.

Sitting in the command center, she gazed over her unit, silently relishing in what was about to happen.  “Have you secured her?” She asked, turning to face him. 

“Yes, mistress, she has been secured.”

               

A cold smile crept across her face.  “You must keep her close; she and the others cannot escape.”  He nodded, acknowledging the truth behind the words that his leader spoke. 

               

She returned her attention to the monitors before them, watching as the other units prepared to descend around the world.  “We will be moving up the time table to this week.” She informed him. 

“This week? Why?” He realized his response was unwelcome, looked upon as a challenge to her authority. 

               

“My apologies, mistress.  I’m just surprised by the decision, it was my understanding that we wouldn’t move for another month’s time.”

               

She looked down at him, the man she had chosen to be her second in command.  The one that she had personally trained to ensure that he would be ready for the task when the time was right, “Are you not able to complete your mission?” The look in her eye told him that there was only one answer.  He stood, with his arms crossed behind his back, at full attention. 

 “Yes, mistress, I am.” He coughed to clear his throat. “I just want to make sure that the other units are ready as well.”

               

As she inspected him, she didn’t see any hesitation within his stance or his ability to move forward with the mission at hand. “They will be,” she assured him, once again turning to the screens, “they have to.”
